Quarter Final Game October 24th

Hi,

      We will be hosting our quarter final game at Scotiabank Park South against the OHS Blues.  Game time is 7 pm, Friday, October 24th.  Oromocto finished just behind us in third place in the South Western Conference:

Saint John and Leo Hayes will play in the other South Western conference quarter final.  The team with the largest quarter final win will host the semi final game.

Go Black Kats! Let's have a big win!

Volunteers for October 17 Home Game.

Good afternoon parents!

I am looking to get some volunteers for Friday's game.  It is our last regular season home game, so I won't be pestering you too much moving forward!!

Transport Sound System - I need someone to pick up the sound system from Tony's and return it as well.

Door - Eloise - I would like to have 1 more parent if possible

Fan Gear Table - I need at least 1 parent to work this table with the leadership students

50/50 - I need at least 1 parent to work this with leadership students

Timer -   Paul Ryan - are you available for Friday's game?  If not, please let me know ASAP so I can try and get ahold of another timer!

Announcer -   Brian - can I count on you for this?

Music - I will bring the ipod.

Clean Up -  I need a few more parents for this.

I am not sure if Tracey is planning on bringing the hotdogs etc. again for a canteen.  Tracey - if you need some parent volunteers to help with that, can you please let me know?

I have indicated here that there will be leadership students at the game, which I understand there will be.  If for some reason, they are not able to make it, I am going to need more parents to volunteer at the time to help out with the above duties.

Run for the Cure Forms and Donations

Good evening parents and players!!

I will need all participation forms Friday.

Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart to help out and to make this come alive in such a short period of time!!!  The boys have done an awesome job on their end.  Very impressed!!  this means a lot to many of the boys!! :-)  xo

RUN for the CURE update

So, starting to get the participation forms in, that is awesome.  Even if your son does not plan on doing the run on sunday, send me a form.  I will add the names as a team!  :-)  They have really been working hard at school to get donations.  Close to $500 in two days!!! whoop whoop.  Keep it up guys!!  so proud.

Dont forget to try and get at least $100 in donations.  the $40 registration fee to be waived if you get &60, we are aiming for $100!!  aim high guys!!  You can do this!

I will find out tomorrow about the CAMFA tickets.  when they are due in.  I have more for those who need more.

I now have a list of 6 family members that we will honor at the game.  Now we can still honor more.  If there are any breast cancer survivors in your family, but will not be at the game, please also give me their names.  I would like to mention them on behalf of the player!  

I have something planned for the start of the game too!!  Coach approved.  I am pumped up!!  will be exciting!  so parents and spectators be to the feild early!!  Game starts at 1pm, I will start at 1245!!  Boys will be pumped up!!

Thanks so much to everyone and especially all the players for making this come together in less than a week!! we have a great team!

Run for the Cure update

Good morning Team!  Great game Friday night!!

I wanted to update everyone on this Sunday, upcoming week, October 04 game and the fund raising.

- I will be at the field Monday after practice to collect all the forms.  Some of the boys did not get forms for the donations , I will have those too.  If you have the opportunity to do some fund raising this weekend, you can go on the CIBC site and print a form off.  The participation forms need just the top part filled out and parent signature if 16 or under.

- I have mentioned to the boys that they should aim to each raise $100.  This will not only wave their registration fee, but just think if all 43 players raised $100 for the cause.  I will need the donation forms and money Friday night after practice.  I will count it up and we will be able to announce at the game on Saturday.

- I will be at the registration/donation centre Sunday, October 5th at 9-930.  I will need a couple of players to meet me their to give the money raised.  Colten will be with me so it would be great for a couple others to come too!

- Start Times:
Final Registration/Donation Drop-off: 10:00am
Opening Ceremonies: 1:10pm
Warm Up: 1:50pm
5km Start: 2:00pm
1km Start: 2:00pm
Awards & Closing Ceremonies: 3:00pm

- I was able to get the team t-shirts even thought the deadline had passed!! :-)  whoop whoop!  The team has been registered as FHS Varsity Kats Football team!  43 t-shirts!!  say what!!  LOL

- We are in the process of getting pink socks for the game.  If we can't, maybe some players that still have socks from previous years can share one.  Also the boys need pink stuff to wear at game and the run!  Coach just asked to not colour the new white jerseys!! :-)

- On game day, we will be finishing up the fund raising!!  50/50, donation buckets, BBQ/canteen/tailgate party.  Proceed made will go to the fund raising efforts.  I will need parents to get BBQ, hots and hams, buns, drinks and stuff for the canteen.  Let me know who can help out and how. Did I mention I was excited about this??  :-)

- I was in contact with the radio station, they will hopefully be airing the fund raiser on game day on all three stations!!  exciting!!  :-)

- After Mondays practice, I will also have a few things for the team to organize at the school .  Lets get as many involved as possible.

- I have asked the guys that if they have family members or close friends that are breast cancer survivors, that we can honour at the game on Saturday.  It would be great to have those names and a brief bio by monday, so I can organize the flowers.  I will ask the player who nominated the survivor to present the flowers to that survivor

- At the game on Saturday I will announce the amount raised and the survivors, and maybe one of the survivors can do the coin toss , like they did at the touchdown for the cure.  Will there be a PA system there for this and for music? can someone organise this? :-)

I know this is a bit last minute, but we can do this!!!!  I just need a little help to pull it off.  The boys seemed really pumped !
I am so proud of the energy and enthusiasm these boys have shown for this cause.  I was teary when I left the field after mentioning it to them!!  I feel that this has touched all of our lives and has had an impact to some degree.  The togetherness this team shows is incredible!  Lets do this Kats!!!!!  Lets show them what being a Black Kat is all about!!

2014 Roster for your Mobile Phone

Here is a copy of the roster formatted for your mobile phone.

Parking at UNBSJ is $4

I contacted UNB Security about parking on the UNBSJ campus for the football game on Friday night.  The UNBSJ Campus has "Pay and Display" machines.  It will cost $4 and I was told the machines only accept loonies and twoonies.  Parking fees are required 24/7.  The easiest parking is likely to be around the G. Forbes Elliot Athletic Centre.  Here is a great map from the OpenStreetMap project that shows the Athletic Centre and the football field.

To get to UNBSJ I recommend taking exit 123 from Highway 1 (the exit beside Harbour Station) and then turn left onto Somerset Street.  Here are some directions from Bing Maps. The satellite images in Bing Maps are more recent than Google Maps in the Saint John area.

1. Save your photos on your computer
2. Upload the photos to an album on a photo sharing website (e.g. http://picasa.google.com/ or http://www.flickr.com/)
3. Set the album to be public
4. Email the photo album link to me ("bernie dot connors at unb dot ca") and I'll post it here on the website.

I spotted Rob Blanchard taking photos at the home opener game against KVHS.  Rob said he will be uploading his photos to the same Flickr stream he used last season.  You can find a link to Rob's photos on the website.

Back for 2014 Season

The FHS Varsity Football website is back for another season!  But since I am not as closely involved this season I will be doing a little less.  For example I will not be putting practice times and locations on the Calendar - just the game schedule. I have already made some updates so have a look around.  Here is a printable schedule of the FHS games in PDF format.  Once I get the roster I will also make a printable roster.

Did you know the team is on a 20 game winning streak?  Our last loss was on September 7th, 2012 and it was our only loss of the 2012 season.

I no longer have a son on the team so I am no longer updating this website.  Keep the winning streak alive.  FHS has not lost a game since the first game of the 2012 season.  That's 19 consecutive wins over 2 seasons!!

7th Annual Maritime High School Football Combine

Coaches,

It is with great pleasure that I am writing to ask that you 'Save the Date' for the 7th Annual Maritime High School Football Combine to be held at the East Hants Indoor Bubble dome on Saturday, February 8, 2014.

My name is Jon Dyer and I am taking over as Coordinator of the event that has been run by Jeff Lawley since its inception. Jeff and I coach together at Citadel Football and he will still be involved this year.

I am very pleased to announce that the Maritime Combine will have the full support of Football Nova Scotia and that this will be the premiere event for the top high school football players in the Maritimes.

We hope that you will promote this event to the players on your respected teams and encourage them to participate. It is a great opportunity for any grade 12's to get a final look from over 17 CIS and CEGEP programs. Additionally, we are hoping to have more of a focus on the grade 10s and 11s so that their identification and recruitment process can begin earlier as it is in the rest of the country.

The charge is only $25 per player which covers the cost of facility rental and the T-shirt each participant will receive.

Combine Features:

* Featuring the region’s top grade 10s, 11s, and 12s.
* Coaches from over 17 of the top CIS and CEGEP programs in Canada
* 2 hours of testing including:
-Height
-Weight
- 40 Yard dash (electric and hand time)
- Vertical Jump
- Broad Jump
- Shuttle Test
- Bench Press

• 2 hours of positional drills and 1v1’s
• Access to testing results and athlete database
• University display areas for promotion and booths
• Held at the indoor Sportsplex bubble dome (30 mins from Halifax, 10 mins from the airport)

2013 FHS Varsity Black Kats are Champions

The Black Kats got it done in overtime!  The Offense scored a touch down on their first attempt and then the Defense kept Riverview from scoring.  The Final Score was 38 to 31.

Bus for football team

All players must be at FHS and on the bus before 11:45 am on Saturday morning for the bus ride to the championship game.
